Public Transport Intergration- The Personal Mover Entry

Product Description and Principal Function(s)

The design aim of the this project is to design a public transport or system in urban area to further increase the existing public transports efficiency.

The Personal Mover integration system is suggested to integrate various types of public transport (rail, road, and water) as one ideal unit for the benefit of the fare paying customer. It is not designed to compete with other mode of public transportation; they are rather as a complementary “tool” of the existing public transportation.

Why does the product represent design excellence and why do you believe it deserves an Australian Design Award?

Apparently, most of the existing transports are serving travelling purpose either over short or long distances. Nevertheless public transport, such as buses and trains, are very useful to serve the purpose of long distance travel, however, they are not well integrated to each other and cannot meet the standard to provide sufficient “door to door” service. Consequently, a more personal mode of public transportation is needed to assist in serving the individual over shorter distances. The personal mover is not designed to compete with other mode of public transportation.

The Perosnal Mover is an alternative for travelling in short distances to or from destinations away from stations and bus stops. Relatively, The Personal Mover is a system of small vehicles under independent control, running on fixed guide ways. The idea attempts to address a number of perceived weaknesses of public transit including fixed timetabling, limited routes, and sharing travel space with unfamiliar travelers. Ultimately, the personal mover is specifically designed as a pedestrian enhancement device for the purpose of enhancing public transports integration, primarily in urban settings.

The personal mover designs should like other public transit, be safer than private transport. The personal mover incorporated the speed mode system to prevent reckless speeding. Separated guide ways are specifically designed to prevent conflict with pedestrians or other manually-controlled vehicles like bicycle. Furthermore, the personal mover also incorporates bioelectric impedance technology on the hand rail to ensure the user control the personal mover in proper manner.

Personal Mover are designed with an adjustable handle rail to fit a variety of individual shapes and sizes. Futhermore, the dimension of the foot rest is designed based on 99 percentile male. This is aims at making the foot rest be available to all individual’s foot sizes.

The personal mover designs should like all public transit, or even much safer than private motoring. The personal mover incorporated the speed mode system to prevent reckless speeding. Separated guide ways are specifically designed to prevent conflict with pedestrians or other manually-controlled vehicles like bicycle. Furthermore, the personal mover also incorporates bioelectric impedance technology on the hand rail to ensure the user control the personal mover in proper manner.

In general, the personal mover aims to offers maximum flexibility, expense, travel time and comfort of travel. However, the proposal is not aiming to ensure everyone to utilise the personal mover, but at least it will be an alternative option that always be there for those who would consider or have a preference of it.
